Passenger Car and commercial vehicle imports remained steady in March 2021 [1]. Toyota was the top new vehicle make added to the NZ fleet for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This blog explores the top 10 new vehicles added to the NZ national fleet in March 2021.
Top 10 new passenger cars in March 2021
Toyota climbed up one spot to occupy the top of the table, Mitsubishi dropped from top in the previous month to number three in March. Subaru which did not feature in the top 10 last month made it to number 9 on the list.

Top 10 new commercial vehicles in March 2021
Toyota remained in the top position in the list. Ford and Mitsubishi also remained in the second and third positions for a second month. Mazda imports remained at 245 but its position in the table dropped by two. This month has a new addition to the list with Volkswagen making it to number 10 on the list.

All new vehicles added in March 2021
In March 2021 10113 new cars and 11012 used cars were added to the New Zealand fleet. New cars made up 47.9% of the total cars.
In the same month 5387 new and 645 used commercial vehicles were added to the New Zealand fleet. New commercial vehicles made up 89.3% of the total commercial vehicles.
It is worth noting that while the number of used and new cars registered in March were roughly equal, in commercial vehicles used imports were only a small fraction compared to new imports.
